Inspiration Porn is to objectify one group of people for the benefit of another group of people.
Life as a disabled person is difficult. We do overcome challenges but they are not things to do with our bodies.
We are more disabled by the society we live in than by our bodies or our diagnosis.
We learn from each others strength and endurance not against our bodies and diagnosis, but against a world that exceptionalises and objectifies us.
I would like to live in a world:
- Where disability is not the exception, but the norm
- A world where we don’t have such low expectations of disabled people where we are congratulated for getting out of bed and remembering our own name. Disability forces us to find different ways of doing things – it does not make us heroes or super human
Disability does not make you exceptional but questioning what you think about what you know about it does. Stella Young
